When people think about retirement, their plans may include traveling, volunteering, working part-time, spending more time with family, or helping care for their grandchildren.
But a retired person’s calendar can fill up quickly – as my parents discovered when they retired. In some ways, it seemed as though they were busier in retirement than they had been when they were working full time! Their volunteer work was especially meaningful to them, and they enjoyed helping people in need. They also loved spending time with and caring for their grandchildren.
Having a full calendar can certainly make retirement enjoyable and fulfilling. But retirement also offers an opportunity to step back and ask some deeper questions:
- What do I want this season of my life to look like?
- What gives my life meaning and purpose now?
- How is God calling me to use my time, talents, and experiences?
- What dreams or possibilities might I want to explore?
Retirement doesn’t have to mean slowing down or simply filling your days with activities. It can be a time to reflect on who you are today, rediscover what brings you joy, explore new possibilities, and discern where God may be leading you in this next chapter.
As a Catholic life coach, I’m passionate about helping women who are approaching retirement or have recently retired navigate this transition. Through coaching, I provide a supportive, faith-centered space where you can reflect on what matters most to you, explore possibilities for your future, and discern your next steps.
Your working years may have ended, but your purpose doesn’t have to. Your “fourth quarter” can be a meaningful and fulfilling season, and you don’t have to figure it all out on your own.
If you’re wondering what God may be calling you to in this next chapter, I’d love to talk with you about how coaching can help you gain clarity and move forward with purpose.
